Self-Care

As part of Sacred Circle Dance, please feel free to change steps to suit your body's needs, or sitting out as a witness to the dance if you wish.

Caring for Each Other

In our delightful diversity, some of us are quiet, some more extroverted, some like to engage with the community in their sacred intent, while some seek silence and solitude for their sacred practice.
Please help make space for all of this diversity. For example, find spaces for conversation, joyful activity, and sharing away from where people are dancing when the dance is being enjoyed.

Caring for the Circle

Something wonderful happens in a dance circle when the energy is carefully held around the circle and everyone's attention is focussed on the intent of the dance.

Many dancers find that the following activities contribute to this deepening of the sacred intent:

- a constant holding of hands to keep the circle intact unless the dance calls for no hand hold
- entering and leaving the dance space seamlessly so that your arriving or leaving is noticed only by a slight shift in the energy
- those who are in the room but not dancing continue to be fully focussed on the dance as witnesses to the moment

To honour both the sacred dance and the community, we dance with intention and a spirit of joy.

Peace to all who enter this space.

DANCE LIKE NO ONE IS WATCHING!

1. THE SACRED

These are sacred dances, but nothing is sacred simply by calling it so. A sense of sacredness comes from within. It is an attitude with which one approaches the dance.

2. BE OPEN

The dances may use sacred phrases from various religions of the world. Enter the circle with an open heart and mind, suspending judgments and prepare yourself for the experience.

3. LISTEN

This is a chance to get out of your head and into your body. Listen to how the dance is danced. Listen to your own inner voice. When you listen, your voice and steps will harmonize.

4. THINKING AND FEELING

Let go of distracting thoughts. Stay in touch with your feelings. If you go off, simply bring your concentration back to feeling. The heart is a good place to begin with.

5. MOVE TOGETHER

You will be amazed at how much higher and deeper the dances are when you use your energy to harmonize with others. Feel your body, and then gradually become part of the whole circle.

6. JOY & GROUNDING

These dances can lead to joyous expression and a deeper sense of connection. You can soar and enjoy. Taste it, and if your feet are grounded on the earth, then you can allow your head to be in the heavens. At the end of the dance, the energies created will be grounded. You can take some for yourself and send the rest to others of the earth for healing.

7. SILENCE

As the sound of the music of the dance stops, enter the silence. It is your opportunity to hear what has been created. It is in this silence that you can absorb the qualities evoked during the dance. It is one of the most important parts of the dance.
